Fall Activities – Date Night or Family

I am sure by now you are tired of hearing that Fall is my favorite season but it really is! There is just something about it that makes my heart happy (and even more so with a little one!) Even though this time of year until the new year our calendar really fills up I still try to pack as many fun Fall activities in before the weather turns too cold. Here are a few of my favorites…

Family

– Visit a Pumpkin Patch : usually pumpkin patches have games and activities as well as a very wide verity of pumpkins so it is definitely a few hours of entertainment for the family

– Carve a Pumpkin : a tradition that most people have but still fun to do as a family especially when the kids can start to design their own faces (I remember this from when I was little)

– Pick Seasonal Fruit then cook with it : I have never actually done this but I have always wanted too! Maybe next year (When Rosie is bigger) we can go apple picking and then make homemade apple pie with grandma! (She makes the best pie crusts!)

– Explore your local events – This year we went to Pumpkin Nights and it was awesome! And they even encourage costumes so all the kids were having a blast -definitely recommended

– Take a hay ride : supper cliche but still fun!

Date Nights

– Make a Bonfire and have Spiked cider (or a drink of your choice) – I love to sit outside in the fall. The world is changing and it seems to be quieting down for winter. What is better than nature, your BOO thang ๐Ÿ˜ and a delicious beverage!

– Watch a black and white horror film : I love old movies and they are even better when they are seasonal. If you have never seen Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder you have got to watch it! One of the best movies ever!

^Rosie is all about holding mugs ๐Ÿ˜

– Go For a Drive : if you are in Colorado like me then this best time to do this has passed as the leaves in the mountains turn really quickly, but it town they are still stunning and definitely worth a drive

– Plan a Game Night : Sometimes enjoying a night without technology is just what you need. We love to plan game nights with hot toddy’s or coco; it really sets the mood for fall and is a great way to spread quality time with your spouse.

What are some of the things you like to do in the Fall with your family or SO?

Talk to you soon!

Life Update

img_6870

I honestly have no idea where to begin, the past few months have been so crazy and it has honestly felt like I have not had a moment to breathe let alone blog! So in order for me to organize my life here is my “to-do” / life update…

On top of working full time, and being a full time mom and wife I have also really been reflecting on my career path and what I want for my future (and my families) I have felt a ton of anxiety about my career lately and I am really trying to decide on what to do next. I have always wanted to do something on my own that will allow me to be creative everyday, but when I start to think about it I would compare it to a browser with 14,543 tabs open – so many ideas that I overwhelm myself! I am just trying to take it day by day now, but this has really been a huge source of stress for me…

Secondly, we have had some health issues with family members over the pay few weeks and days and it has honestly been terrifying. Not only is this stressful and scary, but it can often cause other tensions within the family if people don’t see eye to eye. In all honesty it sucks, and although death, loss and grief are apart of life it does not make them any easier.

Sadly my updates here on BabyFaceBetty have been close to zero as I have had no inspiration for anything currently and not only has it affected my blog, but also my (usually) awesome Halloween decorations and costumes. I have been listening to a ton of Podcast in hopes to rediscover my creativity and inspiration.

On a lighter note, Rosie is almost walking (she is really taking her sweet time!) Every day is such a adventure with her and she honestly makes the world a better place. I can’t wait to share her Halloween costume! it will be one to remember!

I hope you all are having a creative and stress free week thus far ๐Ÿ™‚ talk to you soon!

Currently Loving : Podcast

I never really took advantage of Podcast until this year and I have become obsessed. I find it to be so ironic because as a kid I would complain about talk radio all the time because my parents loved it! Now it is what I listen to all the time – it is true what they say, you become your parents… lol. Below are a few of my current favorites and why I am loving them

1. Girl Boss Radio – This was created by the same bad ass woman as Nasty Gal and it is all about success and what it means to have it all. She interviews all kinds of women and it is not only amazingly inspirational, but also funny and relatable.

2. Side Hustle School – I found this podcast randomly and love it. They are short episodes all about side hustles that turned into successful businesses. This really makes you brainstorm about all the ways money can be made – like having a chicken rental company?! Lol, you will have to listen to know what I am talking about

3. The Dollop – I love to learn about history and laugh so this is the perfect Podcast! Two friends read about a historical events, one has no idea what the event is and as they tell it jokes are shared and laughs are had.

What are your current favorite podcasts? I am always looking for new ones to try and also would love to hear your thoughts on the three I am currently loving

Happy Tuesday,

Favorite Halloween Movies and Treats

I feel like October is the beginning of “human hibernation season” meaning time to start staying indoors and eating a lot… Although many people dread this time of year because of those things I try to enjoy it while it is here and cozy up with the family. Today I thought I would share my favorite Halloween movies and treats for once the kids are in bed, after all, tis the season!

img_6993

Halloween is my all time favorite scary movie and there is no treat that represents Fall and Halloween more than a caramel / candy apple. You can make this dip, or just get the container of caramel dip in the produce section at the grocery store. Or you can be a real OG and make the real deal caramel apples. either way it is a very seldom had treat and totally necessary for fall.

img_6991

If you have never seen the movie Cabin in the Woods then you are missing out! This is not your typical slasher movie and has some major twists. Definitely one I can watch over and over again – the merman makes the entire movie worth it! I am also a big fan of salty and sweet so homemade popcorn on the stove with some M&Ms mixed in is the perfect treat to share.

img_6990

I have never met someone who does not like Hocus Pocus, and if you are the first then BYE! Bette Midler is queen and no matter how many times I see this it never gets old. Cinema gold people! And I know that we already talked about green apples, but this green apple licorice is bomb! it can be somewhat hard to find, but I am usually able to track some down at Sprouts. If you have never had it before and try it let me know what you think

img_6992

I had never seen Trick R’ Treat until a few Halloweens ago and it is now one of my favorites. I don’t think it is very popular so some of you may have no idea what it is, but if you love Halloween and scary movies it is worth the $3 to rent. Also, I know all the other treats have been sweets, but I am a big meat and cheese girl so I had to include this. I usually will choose savory over sweet so this would be my first choice for any movie night.

What are some of your season food and movie favorites?

5 Easy Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Sometimes it can be so hard to decide what to be for Halloween, but then once you decide you have to get all the parts of your costume, or make things and it can become a pain. Especially when you work full time and have a family and the world is already going a million miles a minute! Well I am here to help with 5 simple costume ideas that will (hopefully) only needs items you already own – read on for some costume inspo!

  1. Rosie the Riveter

sb_rosie_the_riveter

Everyone knows this lady, with her determined expression and red bandanna she is ready to conquer the world. All you need for this costume is a navy blue or denim shirt with sleeves that can be rolled up and a red bandanna. and of course some red lipstick!

2. Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s

51ampKeHtKL

This costume may require a little more work, but a black dress with some black gloves and up-do and some major jewelry there will be no mistaking who you are

3. Lucille Balllucille-ball-9196958-3-402

If you have longer hair I would suggest looking up a tutorial on how to do a poodle hair style, some red lips and any retro style clothing would do the trick – also yelling about Ricky a lot would be a dead giveaway, lol

4. Stevie Nicks00-tout-stevie-nicks-boho

The original white witch! The hardest part of this costume would be the top hat but luckily most costume stores carry them at a reasonable price.

5. Frida Kahlo

51TY5TPiThL._SX362_BO1,204,203,200_

Almost anything will do for this costume as the flowers, hairstyle and famous brows make it recognizable. Awesome costume and a way to pay tribute to a awesome woman!

What are you going to be for Halloween?

October First : My Checklist

It seems like every Fall season I have a million things I want to do but I always seem to loose track of time and can never complete them all (I think this is just adult life, right!?) Well I am going to start a experiment this month for my fun “to do’s” and see if that helps me accomplish them. At the end of the month I will do another post and own up to the things I was not able to accomplish. See below for my handful of fun things to do in October…

I am curious to know if any of you use a productivity planner or how you keep your to do’s in order – let me know in the comments

Have a great start to the week!

MamaHood Monday : Self Support for Mom Guilt

As much as I wish I could say that mom guilt is not a thing it most definitely is and it sucks. Most everything in life becomes a double edged sword where you are always nagging yourself for something you could have done differently or just better. Well there is hope! The way today talk to yourself has a profound impact on all things you do including being a mom and how satisfied you are with your mom-ing at the end of the day. I wanted to share a few things I will tell myself when I need a little extra support that usually bring me back down to earth.

1. “Do a days work in a day” you night have heard this in a work setting, but I think it applies to all areas in life. There is no way in hell that I am going to get everything done in one day that I want to – I am only one person and the housework is not going anywhere (sadly) so make priorities and try to stay productive throughout the week – it is amazing what a few minutes here and there can do!

2. “Everyone struggles as a parent, don’t compare your beginning with someone else’s middle” in the world we live in is it so easy to start comparing your life to others and I am sure you have seen those parents that look like they have it all together. Well, newsflash! They don’t, some people are just better actors than others

3. “Quality time can sometimes be greater than quantity” As a working mom this is something I have to remind myself of a lot. 2-3 solid hours of being together at night and paying full attention to each other is what counts. (And this is also my favorite part of the day) this means I am not on my phone or a computer and I am usually down on the floor with her playing – unless we are eating dinner of course

4. “No one can love your baby like you can” I will be the first to admit that sometimes I do get envious of our daycare provider because she is able to be with Rosie so much. Although my rational mind reminds me that she is also with other children and I am sure she sometimes wants to pull out her hair my irrational mind feels guilty. But the truth is I am always going to be her mom, that no one will ever love her like I do and when we are together making that time count is what matters most

Do you have any tips or tricks for combating mom guilt?

Chic Skull Decor

Do you ever have those weeks on end when you feel like you have no extra time? The house is a disaster, work is stressful, family craziness – when does it end!? Well it has been like that for me for two weeks and BabyFaceBetty has been lacking because of it. That being said, I will do better! Any-who on to the post….

I am sure you saw that title and was like, girl what!? But I am totally into skull decor! For Halloween or not – I think the human body is fascinating so I love anatomy books, skulls and all sorts of that fun stuff! I am so excited for Halloween and have already been searching Pinterest for craft ideas to share (and before you say so I am fully aware it is still September, I won’t pop peoples Christmas bubble so please don’t pop my Halloween one, lol)

MamaHood Monday : Teething Favorites

img_6730img_6729img_6728

Every new parent knows the struggle that it teething. Not only is it a unpleasant experience for your baby, but it really sucks being in a situation where not much comforts your little one. Well the good news is that in this day and age you are bound to find a product that works for you and your little love. Today I am sharing my top five favorites and a few tips that worked for us as well.

#1. Nuby Ringย

Rosalie loved this thing! so stimulating to hold and chew on and she loved the primary colors. It is also awesome to throw in the fridge for a few and once chilled is a good source of relief

2. Banana Toothbrush / Teether

At Rosie’s one year appointment the doctor suggested we start brushing her teeth, even if it was not with toothpaste. After hearing this I remembered that I received two of these bananas at my baby shower so they came out of the closet and got put to use. I love them because they not only brush her teeth, but she also uses them as teething relief and as a toy.

3. Latch Pacifierย

If you have been here for a while you know I love these pacifiers! They are my complete favorite and Rosie’s (when she does take a pacifier these are the only ones)

img_6739

4. Nuby Teething Keys

These are a oldie but a goodie! My mom made me get these before Rosalie even started teething and I was so thankful that she did. You are able to cool it in the fridge or freezer and boy does it help. I also really like these keys because I can use a pacifier lanyard to clip them somewhere so there is no chance they will be thrown* on the ground.

img_6738

5. Fresh Food Feeder

If you are not familiar with these I am sure it looks completely odd, but it is such a good idea! a way for your little one to enjoy large foods safely – For us it was all sorts of melon. I will definitely suggest cold watermelon (or any melon) if you have a baby teething around the summer. healthy food, and a cool relief on those little gums.

My last few tips for a teething baby is to first, have lots of patience – remember your little one is in pain so they are going to need you!

Sometimes a cold or frozen towel will do the trick – Rosie used to gnaw on all her blankets!

And finally, playing helps. Keeping their mind off of the discomfort makes it more enjoyable for all, and it may be a challenge to get them to sleep, but hopefully all that play wore them out enough that they will stay that way!

Hop you are having a great start to the week!
