Home Decor : Macrame Everything!

Being a kid I often heard about my mom and dad’s projects creating macrame in the 60’s and 70’s and how awesome some of them turned out – sadly before I was born they were donated (I am crying softly as I write this) but the love of Macrame was definitely passed down to my sister and I and my mom still has her 1970’s Macrame instruction book so I guess that is the silver lining? Fingers crossed I will get around to making one of my own someday! 😉

As I am sure you have noticed Macrame is all over the entire internet and has definitely made it’s comeback. You do always have the option to create your own or buy new, but I personally love looking at the thrift store as you can find some really intricate patterns for dollars!

As you can tell I am totally in love with Macrame, in trend or not, I dig it! It truly gives such texture and interest to a space. What are your thoughts, love it or leave it?

Hope you are having a great day wherever you are 🙂

Home Decor on a Budget : Thrift Store Finds

I am a true lover of what my family calls “home shopping” in short This is basically when you change around all the junk you already have… 😉 I do get bored with the way things look around our house so I like to have different artwork or decor to change out. As we all know artwork can be so expensive! And as much as I love certain pieces at this point in my life I can not justify that kind of investment; so off to the thrift store I go 🙂

As with anything thrift store related it takes time to build a collection that you love so don’t rush yourself and also remember to see the potential in pieces. Like the crane painting in the nursery – it had a horrible cheap yellowing frame, but I just could not get over the painting so I bought it for a whopping 3$ and spray painted the frame. Now it looks like such custom artwork and I get compliments on it all the time. Also the first picture of the couple kissing was just a poster that I put into a mat and frame. The sconces on either side of it are also from the thrift store originally from Crate and Barrel with the tags still on them!

I am not ashamed to say that most of our artwork and home decor items are thrifted. I love to get inspiration from the “big box stores” (target, ikea, etc.) but I don’t like having the same things as everyone else. So when I am out and about I do take a lot of photos for inspiration in thrifting, crafts, or whatever else!

What are your go to places for unique items?

Hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday!

2018 House Purge : My Closet / Office

Oh lord, even looking at these photos make me anxious! I have definitely kept too much for too long, and as I have said time and time again 2018 is the year of the purge for our household (for me really because I am the one that holds on to everything!)

In order to keep myself accountable I am documenting my journey to a clutter free home. I wanted to start in my closet because this room is like a black whole and catch all for things that we don’t want to put away but want out of sight – THE MADNESS NEEDS TO END!

My main addiction is definitely shoes – as if you can’t tell in that last photo! I just love em’ and you will always fit into your shoes (I have used this excuse to keep them in the past) but in being honest with myself how many pairs do I really need or wear? I had to have my husband sit with me and go through all of them and encourage me to get rid of more than I would have alone and it was empowering! I probably let go over over 20 pairs (don’t judge me) and some were like new! I still have quite a bit of work to do until it is how I want it and I will definitely share photos along the way. It is hard to get started but once you are in it it becomes a little, dare I say it, fun!?

What is your biggest project to tackle in 2018?

Thanks for reading

Before you Donate…

As I have said many times before, 2018 is the year of the purge in my household so I am trying to make some hard decisions and declutter my life. Along with decluttering often comes the emotion of “This was expensive so I should keep it” Even though I can totally relate to this I thought I would share 5 options for selling your unwanted clothes, accessories, and even some household items that makes letting go a little easier.

  1. Poshmark (online only – clothing, accessories, shoes, etc) – Posmark is, in my opinion, the most simple way to sell things. It is online or through an app on your phone and all you have to do is snap a few photos, post them with a short description and boom! there is an option to make offers rather than buying outright so you will get a little less money at times, but it can be made up in the amount of items you are able to sell. You can follow my closet here.
  2. Depop (online only – clothing accessories, shoes, etc) – I have never sold anything on Depop, but I know people who have and only good reviews! It is definitely marketed towards more unique, vintage, quirky fashions, but such a fun place to shop and how people merchandise their products is so awesome.
  3. Etsy (online only – clothing, home goods, craft supplies, basically everything) – I have always been a fan of Etsy even before I started my own shop. I love that it is full of such unique pieces and supports people in making their own business a reality. You can find my shop here, (lacking a little attention, but listings are up to date 🙂 )
  4. Buffalo Exchange (in person only – clothing, accessories, etc.) Even though BE is not in every city if you are in a place that has one it is a great and fast option to get some quick cash and they will even donate the stuff they don’t take for you! They are also more interested in vintage, one of a kind of items or even DIY stuff.
  5. ThreadUp (online only – clothes, accessories, etc.) I have also never sold anything here, but I have a cousin that uses it regularly and some of the vloggers I follow also do. It is also a great option to buy or sell and it definitely more main stream, meaning known brands like Gap or Banana Republic, so it would be a great idea to take a look if you have a dress code of business casual at work

Do you guys have any other places to buy or sell clothes? I would love to hear about them! Hope you are having a great Wednesday 🙂

MamaHood Monday Vol 7

I am all about recycling that also means that I don’t get rid of a lot of things that I should; case in point, baby food jars. I have all sorts of these cute little jars that I can’t bear to get rid of and I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out ways to reuse them. I decided to look on Pinterest and found some really awesome ideas. Read on to hear my favorites…

  1. Outdoor Chandelier – you can find the original post here. Such an awesome idea to not only reuse jars, but also make some really cool decor for your outdoor spaces.
  2. Mini Jack-o-lantern jars – Halloween is my favorite so you better belive that this will be happening this year! so simple and fun, and if you have older kids they can help too. Find the full directions here
  3. Chic Storage Containers – This is an obvious option, but you can follow this post and do a water marble effect on them (super fancy! 🙂 ) then store beauty items in them
  4. Mini Succulent Planters (hanging or not) – I would personally not use real succulents in this craft, but depending on where you live it might work for you. I love having plants in every room of the house and this is a simple and affordable way to do that. Directions found here
  5. Wall hanging vases – Tutorial found here. I love this for inside or outside. such a fun way to use up several at a time, and if you don’t have flowers would could use frameless candles too!

What are some of the things you use your left over jars for? Or even if you don’t have kids I would love to hear any other ideas you have!

Hope you are having a great day wherever you are

Current Favorites : Foundation

Being someone who throughly enjoys makeup my favorite products are always changing, but I do have a few that always seem to remain in my top rankings. I wanted to start talking about makeup in somewhat the order that you put it on, and I know what you are thinking, what about primers then?! I did talk about one primer in my last post, but I have yet to find my ride or die, amazing, blow-my-mind primer. So we are starting here, and I am sure we will circle back at some point 🙂

No 7. Stay Perfect – I am sure that you have seen this brand at Walgreens or Target; I was a little sceptical of it when I initially purchased it but it is amazing! I would say that is it a light to medium coverage and if gives you a natural healthy glow and who does not want that?! It is the least expensive out of my three current favorites around $17.00 for the 30ml size.

Estee Lauder Double Wear – As a kid my mom wore a lot of Estee Lauder products so I hold a little bit of a soft spot in my heart for this brand, but I truly love this foundation, This is definitely medium to full coverage and wears beautifully through the day. It is the most expensive of the three, around $45.00 but you can always ask for samples to try before you buy.

Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation – This is the first thing I have ever tried from Cover FX and I love it! it is a cream foundation so when you go into it with a brush or a beauty sponge, you will think that you need more than what you are getting, and girl (or boy) I am here to tell you STOP YOURSELF! This little guys packs a punch and is full coverage! When I purchased it at Sephora I think it was around $40.00, so in between my two other favorites.

I would love to hear about your favorite skin care or makeup products. I hope you are having a great day wherever you are!

Everyone definitely has different ways of dealing with mornings, even if you love mornings they can sometimes be a struggle! I definitely used to think of myself as a morning person, but after having a baby I really am just a whenever-the-baby-is-up person! 😉 I do have a few things I try to do each morning to start my day of right, read on to hear what they are.

  1. Water – Going to sleep at night I always have a huge glass of water with me so I can have it before bed, during the night, whenever, but I also try to drink a lot of water in the mornings any throughout the day. Sometimes I love just ice water, other times I will add fresh lemons, limes or mint. It really makes a huge difference for me and how I feel throughout the day.
  2. Getting Ready – I make an effort to be fully ready before my daughter is up. I am a huge makeup lover and I also really enjoy trying new products so that time in the morning I consider my “me time” I always use a primer for my makeup so it will last all day as I am a full-time employee, mom and wife! I recently got this in my ipsy bag and it is great!
  3. Puppie Time – I feed our dogs and give them lots of love. With a 8 months old in the house our dogs are not given as much attention as they used to  so I do make it a point to give them lots of love in the mornings. They have both been so great with Ro and I truly cannot imagine our family without them so I take advantage of our time together.
  4. Tidy Up – If I have time I try to clean up. You always hear people say “there are never enough hours in the day” and that is so true, but you multiply that by 1,000  that is basically how I feel all the time 😉 Because of that I do try to manage my time and be focused on the baby when she is awake, but while she is asleep to be productive with my time. If she is able to sleep until I wake her up in the mornings I will try to wipe down the counters, unload the dishwasher, all those fun things! just less that I have to do later.
  5. Get Baby Girl Ready for the Day – This one is my favorite! Wake my daughter up, play a little and get her ready for the day. We are so lucky that our daughter is happy when she wakes up, even if she is woken up! (Don’t take this to mean that she never cries, she is a baby, they all cry) She is definitely a morning person and is usually just happy to get up and dressed. She and my husband are really what makes my day start off on the right foot!

What are some things you do every morning to make sure you have a good day?
