Foundation Fails : Disappointing Products

As my baby girl (and I) get older I find myself going for more and more simple makeup routines because let’s face it, babies have no patience and this mama is tired. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love being full beat honey (meaning a full face of makeup) but my makeup has become almost the same each day. This being said I am always on the hunt for great and affordable foundations that will last and I thought today I would share a few that did not make the cut, and why they did not work for me.

(please note that these are my opinions and just because this product did not work for me does not mean it is bad – if you are curious, try them for yourself 🙂 )

  1. Elf tinted moisturizer – I did not like this product for several reasons; first because of the coverage, which is zero. The product states that it is a tinted moisturizer, but for me there was no tint; I also did not like the consistency or the scent.  I had high hopes for this as the price point is so good, but sadly it was a fail
  2. NXY Total Control Drop Foundation – yikes! this one is not only a fail because I did not like how it wore, but also because ever-single-time I used it some would inevitably drop on my clothes. Now you can chalk this up to me being messy, but honestly what a horrible idea for packaging – i prefer a good old pump! I also thought that this lacked the coverage I was hoping for and it started to wear very unevenly after several hours and by the end of the day you could see it starting to break up on the skin. I have also heard some amazing reviews on this as well, but for me it did not work as I hoped it would.
  3. L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte – When I purchased this guy I was so hopefully because I was quite a few beauty bloggers talk about how great it is, but for me it was a BIG flop. I experienced many of the same issues as the NXY product. I also felt like it made my skin look so dull. I am wanting to try to pro glow version because I am all about second chances 😉

I usually do not like to talk negatively about anything, but part of reviews is constructive criticism and as I said, just because it did not work for me does not mean this wont work for you. Also, each of these products I tried several times with different primers and powders – the only way to know is if you try, right!? what are some of your ride or die foundations?

Happy Thursday, xoxo

Skincare Favorites

Do not attempt to adjust your computer, you are seeing this correctly, a new blog post is finally up! I have been so MIA because a sickness hit me hard Sunday night and I am still fighting it today, but the good news is that the weekend is not far away and I am ready for some R&R and sunshine.

Since I am all for beauty on a budget I thought I would share my ride or die staples for skincare.

If you have read my blog before you have heard me rave about coconut oil and Burt’s Bees Baby lotion. Both of these are so great in the dry Colorado climate and also really help with my eczema.

Lush Dream Cream is ah-maz-ing! this can be more on the expensive side but it smells like a dream (see what I did there 😉 ) is natural and really works on dry skin.

Also from Lush, Silky Underwear! This may sound totally weird but this “dusting powder” is wonderful at helping those spots that are a little too close to one another not to chafe in the heat. I hate the smell of baby powder, and it has also been proven that it is not so great for you so this is a welcome alternative.

Next is this Lavender Body Oil that I original discovered through my sister as she bought it as a gift for our mom and I was a jelly belly (meaning jealous) I am obsessed with lavender and body / face oils so when I found it all I could think was “Someone take my money!” 🙂 but in all seriousness it is awesome and you don’t feel like a slippery fish when you’re done putting it on.

Finally we come to Apple Cider Vinegar. Odd choice for a skincare favorites I know but I really do love it! You can use it as a toner, to help with sunburns, and also can mix it with some masks (like this one that I did a review on in a previous post) I don’t mind the smell of vinegar and this is super affordable as well as easy to find. (insert high five here*)

Two of my Beauty Favorites

When I feel like I have found a great product I am on it like white on rice! I am more than happy to stick with the things that I know work – this is true for everything not just makeup. Since spring has arrived and many people love to freshen up their routine / products I thought I would mention two to my ride or die.

First the Makeup Forever ultra HD invisible cover concealer

I really love this formula because it is not thick and it is literally the only concealer that I have used that has little to no creasing. It is definitely more on the expensive side, but in my opinion you get what you pay for with this puppy!

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion

I have loved this stuff for years! I love the glitter / shimmer formula (as shown above) and the matte. Both deliver as promised and keep your eye shadow looking great all day, and if you use the shimmer formula it is so pretty you really don’t even need to layer anything over it!

I am all ears for new awesome products to try! What are some of your favorite makeup and skincare items?

Thanks for stopping by!

Current Favorites : Foundation

Being someone who throughly enjoys makeup my favorite products are always changing, but I do have a few that always seem to remain in my top rankings. I wanted to start talking about makeup in somewhat the order that you put it on, and I know what you are thinking, what about primers then?! I did talk about one primer in my last post, but I have yet to find my ride or die, amazing, blow-my-mind primer. So we are starting here, and I am sure we will circle back at some point 🙂

No 7. Stay Perfect – I am sure that you have seen this brand at Walgreens or Target; I was a little sceptical of it when I initially purchased it but it is amazing! I would say that is it a light to medium coverage and if gives you a natural healthy glow and who does not want that?! It is the least expensive out of my three current favorites around $17.00 for the 30ml size.

Estee Lauder Double Wear – As a kid my mom wore a lot of Estee Lauder products so I hold a little bit of a soft spot in my heart for this brand, but I truly love this foundation, This is definitely medium to full coverage and wears beautifully through the day. It is the most expensive of the three, around $45.00 but you can always ask for samples to try before you buy.

Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation – This is the first thing I have ever tried from Cover FX and I love it! it is a cream foundation so when you go into it with a brush or a beauty sponge, you will think that you need more than what you are getting, and girl (or boy) I am here to tell you STOP YOURSELF! This little guys packs a punch and is full coverage! When I purchased it at Sephora I think it was around $40.00, so in between my two other favorites.

I would love to hear about your favorite skin care or makeup products. I hope you are having a great day wherever you are!

Favorite Amazon Fashion Finds

We all know that Amazon is taking over the world from everything to grocery stores to drone deliveries they have got it all! 🙂 All jokes aside I do really love a lot of the products from Amazon, including fashion items! Today I thought I would share a few of my favorites purchased over the past 6 months.

The other day I saw a newborn baby girl wearing one of these little turbans and I was obsessed! The four pack I ordered has yellow, white, pink and black. They are so soft -you can find them here

Although this is a little more than I usually spend on lounge / comfy items I do really love this. Do note that the seams are not finished (meaning they just have sewn the two layers together on the outside rather than sewing internally to hide) I ordered mine in the cream and toffee colors, but the black and tan is super cute as well! You can find it here

I can have issues finding long sleeved dressed that fit me well and have long enough sleeves so I was a bit hesitant purchasing this floral number but I was pleasantly surprised when I received it and it fit like a dream! This also has pockets, that’s right, I said pockets! For only $12.99 you can order it here

I loved the shape of the Celine bags last season, but like many people did not want to drop the money on one – Amazon to the rescue! I really like this bag because it does have a zip closure and a cross body strap, the only thing to be weary of is the colors can very. Online it reflected as bright orange(as shown) and in the very first photo of the post that I took it is more burnt yellow. You can also see other color options here

And finally, who does not need a banana dress! this is so cute and one of my favorites for spring and summer. Take a look here

I would love to hear about your affordable fashion finds – have a great day wherever you are!

Favorites for Babies Skin (and Mine)

Most new parents aren’t sure what to use for baby’s skin and there are so many options. I know that when we had our daughter we received many different bath and body items and still were not sure what to use! I am super conscious about the things that I use on myself, and it only got worse once I have our little one.

Our daughter is almost 8 months old now and for the entire time I was pregnant, and since she was born her and I both use Burt’s Bees products along with coconut oil. I loved the Mama Bees lotion for my belly during pregnancy, I felt good using it because it was almost all natural, affordable and super hydrating. The only thing I did not like was the scent, but I was overly sensitive to smells – as most women are when pregnant! My nightly routine was cover my entire body with coconut oil, let it soak in for a few minutes, then cover my entire body with Mama Bees lotion. I do think that part of the battle against stretch marks is keeping your skin moisturized, but it is also genetic! That being said, if you get them (I have them, just not from pregnancy) be proud of them, you created a human. 🙂

For my little one, we do essentially the same thing, coconut oil, then Burt’s Bees Baby. If you are in warmer climates this may seem like over kill, but we are in Colorado with 0% humidity so we all need it! I also wanted to mention that I have eczema and the combination of Burt’s Bees and coconut oil really helps.

Find Mama Bee here

Baby Bees Shampoo and Wash here

Baby Bees Lotion here

and Virgin coconut oil here  (love this brand as well! I will have a blog post soon about all the things I use coconut oil for.)

I would love to her your favorite lotions and bath time products for you and baby – hope you are having a great day wherever you are!
